In today's world of smart phone tablet technology, trends often dictate product design and direction for other products, and in the case of the Lowrance HDS Gen2 touch chartplotter/Fishfinder series, consider Lowrance's HDS Gen2 Touch the smart tablet of the marine world. There's no doubt that most people are becoming accustom to one touch home screens, customizing screens, stretching and zooming, drag and drop, etc, on their tablets, so it was just a matter of time that this translated over to marine electronics, and Lowrance has done just that by incorporated this familiar feel into their HDS Gen2 Touch units.
One of the biggest complaints in the past for any chartplotter / fishfinder was that many were difficult to understand, had clunky GUI's, cumbersome to navigate through features, and had slow processing speeds that tend to lag between screen changes and interaction. Beyond the HDS series, the HDS touch series has taken major steps over a 2 year period to develop what I feel is one of the best on the market.
In the following months I will be reviewing the Lowrance HDS-12 Gen2 Touch, from installation to in field use, and reporting back here with a series of in-depth article reviews, consisting of video and images as well. The goal is to give you a complete in-depth look at the unit, features, and performance in a multitude of ways. In the meantime, the below information is a look at the features as reported by the manufacturer.
